International Conference on Ion Beams in Materials Engineering and Characterization (IBMEC 2026)

16 -19 November 2026

The passage of an energetic heavy ion in material, creates a highly dense nanometer sized modified zone due to electronic excitation and collision cascades along the ion trajectory on a sub-nanosecond time scale. The unique feature of ion beam is widely used in materials engineering and characterization, which are the key areas of materials science research at IUAC and is the basic theme of the biennial conference. The conference is the continuation of SHIMEC (Swift Heavy Ions in Materials Engineering and Characterization) conference series organized at New Delhi. Its scope has been widened to include the regime of low energy ions as well and has been renamed as IBMEC (Ion Beams in Materials Engineering and Characterization). The previous conferences in the series are SHIMEC 2010, SHIMEC 2012, SHIMEC 2014, IBMEC 2016, IBMEC 2018, IBMEC 2020 (online), IBMEC 2022 and IBMEC 2024 were held in IUAC, New Delhi, India
